Gannet Life in Newfoundland

Synopsis : Une vidéo impressionnante qui documente l’une des six seules colonies de fous de Bassan en Amérique du Nord. “Parmi les premiers à arriver et les derniers à partir”, ces oiseaux marins monogames se réunissent en mars après avoir passé l’hiver séparés. Ils se reproduisent, élèvent leurs petits et assistent à leurs premiers vols. Toutes ces premières tentatives ne sont pas couronnées de succès. Mêlant ralentis et séquences en temps réel, l’ensemble est magnifiquement filmé.

Synopsis: A stunning video that documents one of only six Northern Gannet colonies in North America. “Among the first to arrive and the last to leave,” the monogamous seabirds reunite in March after spending the winter apart. They breed, raise their chicks and see these young take their first flights. Not all of these first attempts are successful. Mixing slow motion with real-time clips, the entire document is beautifully filmed.

Skimming the Surface – Using Seabirds to Monitor Plastic in the Arctic

Synopsis : Le Cornell Lab of Ornithology en collaboration avec le Council of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) mettent en évidence le problème de la pollution plastique dans l’Arctique et explorent les interactions entre le plastique et les oiseaux marins afin de soutenir un programme de surveillance circumpolaire des plastiques qui inclura les oiseaux en tant qu’indicateur de l’efficacité des efforts de réduction des plastiques marins.

Synopsis: The Cornell Lab of Ornithology in cooperation with the Council of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) showcase the problem of plastics pollution in the Arctic, and explores plastic interactions with seabirds to build support for a circumpolar plastics monitoring program that will include birds as an indicator of whether marine plastic mitigation efforts are effective. Plastics have adverse effects on wildlife and humans.
