The activities of the Tadoussac bird Festival take place in the Côte-Nord of Québec. Most events will be in the municipality of Tadoussac and the surrounding towns.

Tadoussac is located 230km East of Québec city. You may take route 138 East of Québec to get to the festival. A free fairy connects the municipality of Baie-Ste-Catherine and Tadoussac.

The Tadoussac Dunes

Chemin du Moulin-A-Baude, Tadoussac, G0T 2A0

The Dunes of Tadoussac are the main site of activities for the festival, organised by the Observatoire d’Oiseaux de Tadoussac. It is in this location that they conduct their bird banding and migratory bird count (visual counts of birds of prey and passerines). This site is open to the public and is free to access. During the festival, bird banding activities are accessible to attendees. They may also have the chance to see the migration spectacle. On Saturday, exhibitor booths will be present. Additionally, there will be a demonstration of optic lenses and various optical equipment (binoculars, spotting scopes). Interpreters will be there to guide you and answer your questions.

Please note that the site is considered to be the best location to observe diurnal bird of prey migration in Québec. More than 7000 individuals and 13 species are observed in fall.

The only way to access the site is through the village of Tadoussac. Here are the directions to access the site:

  1. From the Tadoussac-Baie-Ste-Catherine fairy, turn on des Pionniers street. This is the main street of the village. Where the grocery store and most retailers are.
  2. Continue on this street, heading towards the golf course of Tadoussac.
  3. Continue again straight for 4km on des Pionniers Street which will become Chemin du Moulin-à-Baude Street.
  4. After the 4km, the road will turn 90 degrees left. You must not turn, you may continue straight onto the gravel road.
  5. After 300 meters, you will be at the belvedere Yvan-Duchesne. There is a parking lot, you have made it!

The bird banding station is a short walk away from the parking space. You first need to make your way to the end of the parking lot. From there, there is a trail leading to the Maison des dunes. A house built in stone where toilets are accessible to the public (from the back door). The bird banding station is 50 meters behind the Maison des dunes. The station is comprised of a mobile laboratory (trailer) and a protective shelter.
